Interviewing a famous composer

Shared by Irene Elisa López

Recipients:

This activity is designed for 3rd of ESO History of Music students.

Objectives:

- Promoting oral and writing skills.
- Knowing biographies of Baroque composers.
- Connecting to Spanish Language syllabus. Text types: the interview.

Timetable:

- Two face to face sessions.
- 40 minutes at home, working on their own.

Description:

Firstly, we propose a collaborating plan, and we work in a big group.

Students with teacher’s help will do an oral brain storming. The idea is to create the interview sketch between all of us. The big and main question to start should be: What would you like to know about any Baroque composer if you could talk to him or her?

Secondly, they will choose ten questions.

Thirdly, each student should choose one composer between Vivaldi, Haendel, Bach and Monteverdi, for example, to do the task at home. They will answer the questions at home, in their notebooks.

Next day, students will work in pairs. They will ask one to each other the questions. In this way they will acquire the information about different composers by speaking.

In addition, they will take down some notes about different characters (writing skill once again).

Conclusion:

This is an extraordinary way to maximizing the opportunities to practicing real English, speaking and writing through Music syllabus. Besides being a cross-curricular planning with Spanish Language and the competence European scholar system.

*Extension. We can make this activity profitable in a third face to face class playing “Who is who” or in a role playing.
