Travelling the world from Maths

Shared by Cristina Fernández:

Looking for the countries

Key vocabulary:

Latitude, Longitude, coordinates, paralells, meridians

Instructions:

Each student choose a meridian and then , working in pairs, its partner should find the countries through which the meridian pass and the coordinates of their capital cities.

They can use Google maps to get the answer. Then each pair should choose one of the countries and tell the rest of the class something representative of them, and they will have to gruess which country are they talking about. This is a cross-curricular activity that involves both maths and geography.

And Harriet Thomson adds:

Before the activity you could do a coordinate dictation. You (or other students) read out the coordinates and in pairs have X minutes to locate the place.
