Learning objectives
- To identify the symbols used to represent components in a circuit.
- To understand why some circuits fail to work.
Contents
Electricity: electric circuits and circuit symbols (battery, bulb, switch, connecting wires, ammeter, voltimeter, resistor, fuse and transformer).
Activities
Speaking: Find a friend.
Give each student one of the cards (symbols and descriptions). Students should move around the classroom and find their matching “friend”.
Speaking: Picture dictation by pairs.
Students A have a circuit and they have to describe it, whilst students B draw it.
Writing: Individual worksheet.
Each student have a worksheet, with the following questions:
- Will the bulb light?
- Where is the fault on the circuit?
- Describe how you fixed the circuit to light the bulb.
Speaking: Pairs.
Discuss the fault on the circuit. Then, draw the correct circuit that will light the bulb.
Speaking: Whole class.
Answer the following question: What three facts would you tell a friend about electric circuits? (Use keywords, such as bulb, switch, open, close).
