Unit “Religion. The Greek gods and goddesses”

Activity “Who is who” (speaking and writing): The Pantheon of Olympus.

Students identify different “gods and goddesses” and say four or five things about them:

1. Greek name.
2. Roman name.
3. Symbols represented in the images.
4. Other symbols of these gods and goddesses.
5. Tasks (attributions) of the gods and goddesses (divine realm).

First, the students complete a table (they work in pairs). They have to identify the symbols they are given: a shell, the three-headed dog, a sea horse, an owl and a lyre.

Complete (writing):
GREEK NAME / ROMAN NAME / IMAGES: Names / Other attributes
The goddess of love and beauty
The god of music and prophecy
The god of the sea
The goddess of wisdom and war
The god of the Underworld

After, they talk about their task (grammar structures / key words), for example: (They can use simple present or simple past / possessive adjectives “her, his”):

"The goddess of love and beauty was Aphrodite. This was her Greek name, the Roman name was Venus.
One of her symbols is the shell. Other symbols are the “golden apple and dove”. She was the goddess of the fertility too."

I can also see opportunitiews for drama and creative thinking in this lesson. For example: Which God am I? (they choose and mime a god) or Create a new god for the Modern Age - The God of Instagram or The Goddess of Women's football
