Who is who in Ancient Egypt?

Guess who / what came to visit…

1. One of the activities I consider fun and engaging for the students, a way to review the vocabulary of the lesson and a good opportunity for them to practice their speaking skills, is to give them different roles written in a piece of paper (pharaoh, scribe, priest, farmer, artisan or even things like a pyramid, a mummy, River Nile, sarcophagus, Osiris, papyrus…for the lesson about Ancient Egypt) and then choose one student randomly.

He or she will stand at the front of the class and their classmates will ask him/her questions to try to guess which person or thing is.

Questions like:
- Are you a person?
- Are you an object?
- Are you made out of stone?
- Were you important for Egyptians´ life?
- Do you belong to the high / low class?
- Did you live in a palace?
- Are you buried in a pyramid?,
- Are you wrapped in linen cloth?...

When one of the students guesses the role, that one will be the next student to put at the front and be interviewed.

It is a very simple but at the same time effective activity to practice English and review the vocabulary of the lesson.

2. After the first activity we could practice their writing skills by creating small descriptions of their roles on Padlet using their phones or tablets.
