I'm going to describe a practical activity about TIMBRE, one quality of the sound that alows to difference between voices from the other musical instruments.

First of all, I'm going to ask the class about their own voices: Can you recognise your own voice? And your mum's voice at a supermarket?

After that, we think about the answers and get de stormy of the ideas flow with warming activities to get students thinking.


1.- WORD ASSSOCIATION. Choose a word from the topic you are teaching . Students link one word to the next.

Example: trumpet AMSTRONG quintet
voice ROSALIA soprano
flute JEAN PIERRE RAMPAL classic music
guitar HENDRIX rock
violin ARA MALIKIAN great player

2.- FIND SOMEONE WHO:

Can remenber a flutist

Can spell sousaphone

Can explain how the accordion works

Cant tell 3 things about Rampal

Can compare and contrast the timpani and the triangle

3.- FINISH THE SENTENCE

Write the beginning of a sentence on the ord related the topic/theme you are teaching. See how many different endings student can write.
